How does it work?

First, pick a trail you want to ride. For recommendations, click Here.
Second, pick which electric bike you want. To learn about our e-bike models, click Here.
Third, add accessories or transportation as necessary.
When you complete your reservation, you are good to go! Meet us at the Spokehouse at your scheduled start time.

What should I bring?
Bring plenty of water and fluids, snacks, sunglasses, a light jacket, and a camera. You may want gloves. We do sell sweatshirts, headwear, and gloves at our shop.
To-go meals and beverages are available from our friends next door at Cogs Gastropub.
If you post photos to social media, tag us @Spokehouse_E_Bikes or #SpokehouseEBikes for chances to win prizes, discounts, and merchandise.

Where do we pick up the e-bikes?
Our shop is located at 519 Bank Street, Wallace, Idaho, just steps from the Center of the Universe.

When should we arrive?
Please arrive at your scheduled start time. Since we are open by reservation, the shop may not be open if you show up at a time other than your reservation. Give us a call if you are planning on showing up early. Late arrivals may require rescheduling or cancellation. Please remember we are in Pacific Time zone here in North Idaho. If you want to ride on a Sunday, book a private group here.

Who can ride an electric bike?
Anyone can ride an e-bike. It only requires a basic level of coordination, balance and fitness. As with any bicycle, riding an electric bike can be physically demanding, but is easier than riding a bike without a motor! We do limit rider weight to 250 pounds, for your safety and the safety of our equipment. Riders under age 16 should ensure they are tall enough to get on and off a full-sized bike with toes on the ground, without tipping over. Minors will also need a parent to submit the liability form as part of the reservation process. The rider's age is not as important as their size and aptitude on a regular bicycle.
If you haven't ridden a bicycle in years, we recommend getting on a regular bike first to get your balance. E-bikes are heavier and more complicated than regular bicycles.

When can I ride?
We will open May 5, 2025, by reservation, for the summer e-bike season. Most trails in the area are snow-covered during the winter and spring. The Hiawatha Trail will open May 23, 2025 and close September 14, 2025. Pick up a bike as early as 8 a.m. for your ride.

Why should I ride an electric bike?
Electric bikes allow you to cover more distance and climb more hills. If you plan on doing long rides like the Hiawatha, or extended portions of the Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes, you'll want assistance to extend your range. Riding an electric bike on the Hiawatha Trail allows you to skip the lines and discomfort of their school bus shuttle, and ride back up the trail at your own pace instead. We have heard of riders waiting for the Hiawatha shuttle for hours or more on busier days.

Can I transport the bikes in my car?
You can fit 2 e-bikes in an uncovered standard 6.5' truck bed. Electric bikes are large, and typically weigh around 50 - 80 pounds. They will not fit in your hatchback, SUV, Ferrari, or inside a vehicle. We reserve the right to cancel your rental if it appears your method of transportation will damage the bikes (or your vehicle.)

What if I don't have a pickup truck?
You can always add our bike drop-off and/or pick-up to your reservation. If your friend wants us to transport their personal bike, you can add a "non-rental bike drop-off" to your reservation for $25 each. Prior approval is required before we can transport their equipment, so we can make sure their bike is compatible with our transportation systems.
You can also rent our 2-bike car racks. Your vehicle needs a 2" hitch receiver with a rated tongue weight of 300 pounds or more to accommodate the bike rack and 2 e-bikes. Another option is to rent a Tailgate Protector Pad so you can hang the rental e-bikes on your tailgate.

Why aren't the rental e-bikes allowed on the Hiawatha shuttle bus?
Typically, our bikes are damaged on the shuttle, due to the nature of the bumpy dirt road. Also, e-bikes are heavy, and it is courteous to give the Hiawatha shuttle employees a break from loading your heavy bike into their bus.
On an electric bike, you do not need to ride the shuttle, since you have electric power to easily ride right back up the route. If you do not want to ride back up the trail, you can rent a regular bike from the Hiawatha and use their shuttle to get back to your car.
