FAQs

How does it work?
First, pick a trail you want to ride. For recommendations, click Here. Then, pick which model of electric bike you want. To learn about our bikes, click Here. Then, add accessories or transportation as necessary.

What should I bring?
Bring plenty of water and fluids, snacks, sunglasses, a light jacket, and a camera. You may want gloves. We do sell sweatshirts, headwear, and gloves at our shop.
To-go meals and beverages are available from our friends next door at Cogs Gastropub.
If you post photos to social media, tag us @Spokehouse_E_Bikes or #SpokehouseEBikes for chances to win prizes, discounts, and merchandise.

Where and when do we pick up the bikes?
Please show up to the Spokehouse shop at 519 Bank Street, Wallace, Idaho at your scheduled start time.

Who can ride an electric bike?
Anyone can ride an e-bike, if you have decent balance and physical fitness. Riding an electric bike can be physically strenuous. We do limit rider weight to 250 pounds, for your safety and the safety of our equipment. Riders under age 16 should ensure they are tall enough to get on and off a full-sized bike with toes on the ground, without tipping over.
If you haven't ridden a bicycle in years, we recommend getting on a regular bike first to get your balance. E-bikes are heavier and more complicated than regular bicycles.

When can I ride?
We are open year-round, by reservation. Most trails in the area are snow-covered during the months of November - March. The  Hiawatha Trail typically opens Memorial Day and closes in September. Pick up a bike as early as 8 a.m.

Why should I ride an electric bike?
Electric bikes allow you to cover more distance and climb more hills. If you plan on doing long rides like the Hiawatha, or extended portions of the Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes, you'll want assistance to extend your range.

Can I transport the bikes in my personal vehicle?
You can fit 2 e-bikes in an uncovered standard 6.5' truck bed. These bikes are large, and heavy. They will not fit in your hatchback, SUV, or inside a vehicle. We reserve the right to cancel your rental if it appears your method of transportation will damage the bikes (or your vehicle.)

What if I don't have a pickup truck?
You can always add our bike drop-off and/or pick-up to your reservation. We can deliver up to ten bikes for your group. Be advised, we only transport our own bikes. If your friend wants to bring their own bike, they need to approve that with us before we can transport their equipment.
You can also rent our 2-bike car racks. Your vehicle needs a 2" hitch receiver to accommodate the bike rack.

Why are the Spokehouse's bikes not allowed on the Hiawatha shuttle?
Typically, our bikes are damaged on the shuttle, due to the nature of the bumpy dirt road. Also, our bikes are heavy, and it is courteous to give the shuttle employees a break from loading your heavy bike into their bus. You do not need to ride the shuttle, since you have electric power and can easily ride right back up the route.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Can you accommodate special requests?
If you have a special request, we will do our best to accommodate it. Whether you want a picnic lunch, a bottle of wine, a photo of your group, reach out to us for help.

Can the Spokehouse assemble or maintain my personal e-bike?
If you are looking for assembly, tune-ups, or maintenance, please send us an email, visit us, or give us a call.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Everything was top notch from the moment we met at the shop! Loved the bikes and the Hiawatha Trail! We will definitely be back! Thanks!

It was very convenient to rent from Spokehouse and if you’ve never tried an e-bike on the Hiawatha Trail - we highly recommend it!!! We booked online and Stu and Nick were very quick to respond and remain in contact with us for super easy pick up/drop off in Wallace. Nick even helped us load and unload the bikes in our truck. We had many jealous onlookers wishing they’d had an e-bike to fly “up” the Hiawatha Trail. Everybody’s got to do it at least once.

The one on one service was great. The bikes are very well kept and never had a problem on the trail. I would highly recommend renting using them for your e-bike ride.

Do NOT rent from Lookout. Rent from Nick! I tried unsuccessfully to convince my other 5 family member to rent from Nick and they rented from Lookout. Huge mistake. The brakes failed on one bike 5 miles in. The seat wouldn’t stay in place on another. And then, 16 miles into the ride, a tire blew on another. This made the day miserable and several hours longer then it should have been. I was the only one that rented from Spokehouse and I had a fabulous day. It was so gorgeous on the trail and so relaxing. Thank you Nick!
